Triforium Los Angeles

Triforium Los Angeles

LightRiders was honored to be a part of this incredible project to bring the Triforium back to life for a three part series in the fall of 2018. Featured in the LA Times and the culmination of a multi-year project, this endeavor revived a decades old, ahead-of-its-time audiovisual structure originally designed and installed by Joseph Young. With new technology (and some old tech), we were able to get the Triforium back up and running for a limited, temporary run. Hopefully, it can be restored to embody the original vision of Joseph Young’s futuristic vision.

From the Triforium Project

“The series, curated by Claire L. Evans and Jona Bechtolt of 5 EVERY DAY and YACHT, is hosted by Tom Carroll of TOM EXPLORES LOS ANGELES and made possible with the assistance and support of LA City Councilmember JOSE HUIZAR, the Los Angeles DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS, the GOLDHIRSH FOUNDATIONTHE NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION, and NOW ART LA.”

Artwalk Ventura 2018

Artwalk Ventura 2018

Thanks to Downtown Ventura Partners, we were invited to come to the 25th Anniversary of the Ventura Artwalk to do an all new installation customized for this special occasion. We used plastic LED beaded curtains, hung in parallel, to create a light world that could be seen from afar and immersive. The beaded curtains created a nostalgic feel with a modern tech twist. With the help of Darvik Productions, we were able to create a 240 sq. ft world for a night and establish an interactive LED world for people to enjoy. See the details below…

Design

  • LED Beads

  • 3,150 individual LED beads, hung in strands of 15 beads

  • Ten separate curtains of 315 LED beads each,

  • Area: LED bead curtains hung parallel in a 40 ft. x 60 ft. space

  • Live controlled and audioreactive

We came home (raised in Reseda!) for the third year and put together something we had never done before- a dual structure immersive installation with more LED lanterns - 150 - than we had ever done before. This allowed us to create patterns that mirrored each other on each structure and also had patterns that bounced between structures to create a cohesive experience. See below for more details!

Design

  • 150 lanterns

  • 3,000 LEDs

  • Two independent structures

  • Each structure: 8 ft. tall/30 ft. around

  • Each structure: 5 rows of 15 lanterns each

  • Structure material: PVC

  • Live controlled and audioreactive

Frogtown Artwalk 2018

Frogtown Artwalk 2018

We got to come back to Frogtown after a ridiculously fun Frogtown Artwalk 2016 with a brand new installation. For 2018, we did a half-mile installation of synced lanterns along the famed Los Angeles River. Over 100 lanterns lined the bike path as Frogtown Artwalk attendees walked, biked, and pedi-cabbed from artist exhibition, to food, to more art. This definitely could not have been done without the help of some incredible volunteers and old fashioned hard work. All in all, it was 24 hours from setup to breakdown, and completely worth it. Check out the specs below!

Design

  • ~2,500 feet long

  • 110 individual lanterns, all synced

  • Individual lanterns were each powered by a custom-battery pack

  • 2,200 LEDs total

  • Live controlled and audioreactive
